Arrangements for sympathy, funeral services, and memorials.
May Flowers’ approach to funeral and sympathy flowers is driven by our first hand experience that flowers can have a positive impact on people’s lives and remain one of the most beautiful ways to express our condolences when words cannot.
We are passionate about leaving lasting impressions through unique floral pieces. Our designers read each order carefully, and create unique pieces with different stories. We like to incorporate personalities about the individual whether it’s a specific colour or flower, clippings from the home garden, or including personal items that are special to your family.

How much should I spend?
Flowers sent to visitations and ceremonies tend to be larger in size, which is why they typically start at $150. Smaller arrangements may get lost in a room full of large floral pieces and people. That being said, we believe the sentiment is what is most important and any size arrangement will be most appreciated by the family.
What type of arrangement should I send?
Sympathy arrangements sent from non-immediate family, friends, and colleagues are often stand-alone pieces such as baskets, wreaths, and standing sprays. These pieces can be sent directly to the memorial service or funeral home. These pieces are usually large in size and are one-sided.
For something more subtle, you can send a vase arrangement or small basket that the family will be able to take home and enjoy. These arrangements are a personal way of sending your thoughts and sympathies to the families.
Is it ever too late to send flowers?
It’s often the case that people don’t find out about the funeral until it’s already passed. Sending flowers to the family of the departed with a card expressing your sympathy will certainly be appreciated. When the service is over and all return back to the daily routine, send flowers to say, “We’re still thinking of you."
What should I write on the card?
If you’re sending flowers, a brief note of sympathy attached is appropriate. We encourage you to send a thoughtful and personalized message, however, we understand that sometimes there’s a loss for words. Here are some suggestions for what to write:
- - Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
- - Please accept our deepest sympathy.
- - We are thinking of you in knowing how much [name of the departed] was respected and loved.
- - We will always remember [name of departed] for…
- - He/she will remain in our hearts forever.
Are there certain types of flowers or colours that are not appropriate for sending to a funeral service?
Every flower, when tastefully arranged, is appropriate for expressing condolences. A funeral service is about gaining closure following death but it’s also about celebrating the vibrant spirit of a person’s life and honouring the place they have in the world. Selecting vibrant, colourful, and bright flowers are just as appropriate and can add some a cheerful note to an otherwise somber occasion.
The obituary says "In lieu of funeral flowers," but I still would like to send flowers – is this appropriate?
As part of making funeral arrangements, family members sometimes request a charitable donation is made "in lieu of flowers". We think you should make the contribution; however, it is also acceptable if you decide you would also like to send flowers to the funeral service. Your donation will honor the family request and the flowers will add beauty, fragrance and life to a somber event.
